History of Flag Day
Published 6/14/2007
The flag of the United States of America was adopted by resolution of the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. Flag Day commemorates this event. Flag Day was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30, 1916. It was not until August 3, 1949, that President Harry S. Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 of each year as National Flag Day.
