Rita Relief Center
Published 10/4/2005
In a recent article dated October 3, 2005, Roy Johnson reported that a Rita recovery station is being set up at Circle Drive Baptist Church in Bridge City. This location will serve as a food/commodities distribution point, a medical clinic and a source of regional information. The creation and operation of this center is through the combined efforts of the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas and the Baptist Missionary Association of America through its Department of Missions including the Baptist Medical Missions International (BMMI) which will enable the center to operate as a medical clinic.
The article makes a call to churches outside of the affected areas to determine what they can do to help. The author makes the statement that, “if each individual will do what he/she can, the work load will be lighter.”
The article points out that in the midst of the tragedy there are new opportunities. There are opportunities to “establish new bridgeheads into unreached communities.” It may be possible to start new churches and ministries through relief efforts in the area. There are opportunities to influence people to make positive changes in their lives.
Roy Johnson’s zeal to get BMA churches involved in the relief effort is very evident in the article. The Bible tells us that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. What can you do to help these people who are your neighbors?
