On nearly every Wednesday night
during the school year South Park Baptist Church is bustling with activing. It
is on Wednesday night that students from grades one through twelve converge on
the Fort Worth church. They come to play games, they come to memorize Bible
verses, they come to hear the Word of God taught, they come to have fun.
Each evening of Awana is divided into three periods, game
time, handbook time and council time. During Game Time the Awana club
members participate in games that are enjoyable for their age group. Many of
these games take place on the Awana circle, which is designed to allow four
teams to compete against each other.
During Handbook Time the club members pass sections in the Awana handbook. Most of the sections involve memorizing Bible verses. Club members have the opportunity to earn shares when they pass sections. The shares can be traded for toys and other items on Store Night. Store Night is usually held twice a year. The club members can also when awards and trophies as they progress through the program.
During Council Time the club members gather for
singing, announcements, awards and a Biblical message. At South Park
Baptist, the 3rd through 6th grade clubbers meet in the auditorium for council
time. We feel that this helps them to learn the proper way to behave in
"church" while being in the company of children their own age.
Awana begins at 6:40 each Wednesday night and ends at about 8:25.
